How to Remove Your Information from Google Search Results

Google built a tool specifically for requesting removal of your personal information from search results. Here’s how to use it.

What this tool does and doesn’t do: Google’s “Results About You” tool lets you request removal of pages that show your personal information directly in Google Search results. This does NOT delete the information from the source website — it removes it from Google’s index. The page will still exist; it just won’t show up in search results. For full removal, you’ll also need to contact the source site directly.

Using the “Results About You” Tool

1

Access the Tool

Go to myaccount.google.com and look for “Results about you” under Data & Privacy, or search directly for “Results About You” in Google. You must be signed into a Google account. The tool is available at myaccount.google.com/results-about-you.

2

Set Up Your Profile Information

On first use, Google will ask for your name and contact information to run the initial scan. Enter your full name as it appears publicly, along with any phone numbers or addresses you want to monitor. Google uses this to find results matching your personal information.

3

Review the Results Google Finds

Google will surface search results that contain your personal information. Review each one. You’ll see the site name, the URL, and a preview of what information is shown. If a result shows your home address, phone number, or other information you want removed, you can request removal directly from this dashboard.

4

Submit the Removal Request

Click on any result you want removed and select “Request removal.” Google will ask you to confirm which type of information is shown (home address, phone number, email, etc.) and why you want it removed. Select the appropriate option and submit.

Google typically reviews requests within a few days. You’ll receive an email notification when the request is processed. Not all requests are approved — Google evaluates whether the content meets their criteria for personal information that poses a risk.

Enable Ongoing Monitoring

The Results About You tool can also send you alerts when new results containing your information appear. Turn on notifications in the dashboard settings. This is free and runs automatically once enabled.

This Is a Starting Point, Not a Complete Solution

Google’s tool only removes results from Google’s search index. The information still exists on the source website, and it may be indexed by Bing, Yahoo, and other search engines. For complete removal, you’ll need to either contact each data broker site directly or use a removal service.

See the Removal Services comparison page for services that handle this across hundreds of sites simultaneously.
